Honda Crosstour: Conceptual in Name Only
What they said: To lend a more rugged character to the Crosstour, Honda simplified the fussy front end, added a visible skid plate, tacked on two-mode of expression cladding and squared off the rear end. The Crosstour’s clearance was also raised. “It gives it a stance that it didn’t have before,” Dave Marek, pilot of advanced design for Honda R&D America, said. The whole package is intended to compete against the likes of undecided wagon-crossovers like the Toyota Venza and Subaru Outback.
What they didn’t say: “Does this new bumper devise me look fat?” The back end affects a Panamera-like corpulence, while the higher stance and front skid plate give sturdiness, if not aggression. More technology will be added before the production car has its debut, including a suite of apps and streaming radio stations courteousness of Aha.
What makes it tick? The concept, as we’re told to call it, has front-wheel drive with an option of all-wheel drive. There will be two powertrains: a re-engineered 3.5-liter, 24-valve V-6 and a 2.4-liter in-be on the take 4-cylinder engine. The V-6 models will feature a 6-speed automatic transmission, with optional steering-wheel-mounted beat shifters. The tamer 4-cylinder model will receive a 5-speed automatic transmission. Honda promised improved incite economy over the existing Crosstour, but did not provide specific estimates, saying only that it would be “class-leading.”
